Jo-Ann Suchard (UNSW Business School)
Jo-Ann Suchard is an Associate Professor in Banking and Finance at UNSW Business School. Her area of specialty is in entrepreneurial finance and she has conducted pioneering research on the Australian and Chinese venture capital and private equity markets. She has won both Australia Research Council Linkage and Discovery grants for research in this area. She has also undertaken funded research in conjunction with government and industry partners including Australian Investment Council (formerly the Australian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association), Queensland Investment corporation and the Innovation Division, Department of Industry (Canberra) and the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (NSW). Her current research focuses on diversity (including gender) and access to capital.
She has been a director on the board of the Asian Finance Association since 2010. She developed an international annual online colloquium on venture capital and private equity in the Asia Pacific region, which she runs in conjunction with the Asian Finance Association. This colloquium attracts global academic and industry participants.
Her additional research interests include capital raising in debt and equity markets, corporate governance and Chinese financial markets. She has published widely in international journals, is an editorial board member of the Australian Journal of Management and present regularly at Australian and international conferences. She has previously held visiting positions at University of British Columbia, Canada and Singapore Management University.
